Lower Zambezi Fishing and Game

Paradise isn’t as far away as you may think. In fact, it can be located within the Lower Zambezi National Park, on the north bank of the Zambezi in south eastern Zambia at Potato Bush Camp. This gorgeous camp boasts luxury safari tents with en suite twin hot showers, twin basins and grand clawed baths that overlook the all-encompassing views of the Zambezi River and escarpment.

The lodge also offers a range of activities which include fishing, game viewing drives, walking safaris, and canoeing. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see free roaming herds of elephants, buffalo, hippo, lion, leopard, and general game, as well as nocturnal animals such as leopard, owls, and civets on one of the camp’s night drives.

Fishing is truly exceptional along the lower Zambezi and anglers have access to over 30km of remote Zambezi populated with a range of bream and trophy tiger fish as well as Chessa, Nkupe, and enormous Vundu. All fishing is led by experienced guides off 4 or 5 boats depending on the group’s size. Anglers can land trophy tigerfish by either drifting chessa or live bait, spinning the Mepps Anglia lures, or by flyfishing. All bait fishing tackle is unlimited, but those wanting to fish with lures or fly are advised to bring their own equipment.

3, 4 or 5 night stay and tiger fishing at Potato Bush Camp or Sausage Tree Camps. Trip based on private camp occupancy (based on 10 people) and fishing from 4 – 7 boats.

What’s on the itinerary?

The five night stay at Potato Bush Camp is characterised by its easy-going informal schedule, allowing guests to relish their holidays at their own pace. However, the days generally play out as follows.

REMAINDER OF ARRIVAL DAY:

Upon arrival at the Jeki Airstrip, you will be met by your hosts from Potato Bush and Sausage Tree Camps and taken on a short road transfer from the airstrip to the ‘harbour’ and thereafter, it is a 15 minute boat cruise to the camps. After settling into your tents, unpack your fishing kit and it is time to hit the Zambezi River for some fishing! For those that don’t want to fish, there is always the option of a bush walk, game drive or canoe safari.
