Ndutu Wilderness Camp

The seasonal Ndutu Wilderness Camp is situated in the heart of the Ndutu plains within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the north east regions of Tanzania. The camp operates between December and March, during the calving season of the phenomenal annual wildebeest migration, promising an unforgettable safari experience.

The camp comprises ten spacious tents equipped with en-suite facilities, comfortable beds, quality linen, solar lighting, and eco toilets, the latter of which honour the environmental ethos of the camp. Attentive staff are on hand around the clock to make your stay is exceptional. The safari chef serves delicious meals for all palates that can be enjoyed in the airy dining tent before guests can head to the lounge area to relax and unwind.

Numerous activities are available the Ndutu Wilderness Camp such as game drives in the surrounding areas and visits to the Olduvai Gorge where humanoid bones dating back 1.75 years have been discovered, and where cut rock beds reveal 2 million years of development. Visitors can explore the diggings with a guide at the Gorge’s site museum. Access to the Ngorongoro Crater, guided game walks, birding, and cultural tours to the neighbouring villages where guests can learn about the local Maasai culture are also available. The camp is also dedicated to community development. Guests are welcome to participate in the local community projects such as building schools, health centres, and planting trees during their stay.

Multiple day walking safaris are a spectacular way to explore the region’s natural beauty and wildlife. The camp offers walking safaris in the Ngorongoro Conservation area that are partialy backed by vehicles and/or donkeys. These safaris take guests from the Ndutu plains to the highlands of Ngorongoro and Empakaai, while seasoned hikers can attempt the challenging hike up Ol Donyo Lengai.

The camp is accessible via road and air. Guests flying in will arrive onto the Kogatende airstrip (a thirty minute game drive to the camp). Guests can combine nights in the central Serengeti Wilderness Camp with the Ndutu Wilderness Camp to get the most out of their Serengeti experience.
