Serengeti North Wilderness Camp
The Serengeti North Wilderness Camp is situated in the Lamai Wedge, tucked in the northern-most corner of the beautiful Serengeti National Park. The remote location overlooks the Mara River a short distance from the popular crossing point for the annual wildebeest migration. Owing to its sparse vegetation, the camp’s location is also ideal for game viewing enthusiasts.
The camp consists of ten spacious tents equipped with comfortable beds, quality linen, and en-suite eco toilets along with bush showers off private dressing room areas. Each tent has a shaded veranda that is ideal for game viewing and relaxing. The rest of the camp consists of an airy dining tent and a large lounge tent with a small library, board games, and a charging facility.
Game drives, guided walks, and multi-day wilderness trails, all led by professional rangers, are on offer where guests can expect to see great herds of buffalo, elephant, giraffe, eland, topi, kongoni, impala, and Grant’s gazelle. Predators include lions, leopards, cheetahs, all three African jackal species and many more. Reptiles, insects and birdlife also abound with over 500 bird species soaring over the landscape, making birding another popular activity available to guests.
Other activities and sights include majestic balloon safaris, the Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge, the Ol Donyo Lengai active volcano, and Lake Natron for flamingo viewing. The camp is also involved in many community projects such as the “give a net, save a life” initiative and guests are welcome to participate. After a long day of activities, the camp’s safari chef prepares delicious meals to guests’ unique dietary requirements, and guests can enjoy sundowners and snacks around the open-air campfire in the evenings.
The camp is exclusively open during the peak migration period when the largest herds of wildebeest are passing through the area. This period extends from July to October. However, guests can combine nights in the central Serengeti Wilderness Camp with the Northern Camp to get the most out of their Serengeti experience.
Guests can either drive in or fly in to the camp with both packages available. Guests flying will arrive onto the Kogatende airstrip (a thirty minute game drive to the camp). A minimum of 3–4 nights is recommended to fully explore the region with families and corporate groups most welcome.
